Why is a size 6 brush in one brand different than a 6 in another?
Basically there is no standardization of brush sizes. A manufacturer may label a brush any size they wish though brushes sized in inches or fractions of inches run pretty true to size in width but they may vary considerably in length and thickness. Many, many years ago the term "French size" was used. In French sizing, 6 would refer to 6mm. "French size" was also used to explain the difference in size between fine hair or sable brushes and the bristle equivalent being English or American size. Bottom line -----when buying a brush, the best solution to the size issue is buy what fits your need not because of the size on the handle. What is your best brand of paint?

NO---No-----no. It is too porous. Bacteria can get trapped and cause illness. Can air-dry clay be painted?
Yes, air-dry clay may be painted after the object has fully dried. Tempera paint may be used. But it may flake or run off and will definitely come off with moisture. Acrylic based paints are moisture-proof and will seal the clayto a certain degree but it is not the same as glazing done in a kiln. Air-dry clay is not the best choice for vases or vessels you want to hold water as moisture will gradually seep through the bottom. Only kiln fired clays vitrify making them suitable for vases and food service items. What does hydroscopic mean?
In artist colors, it means that the paint or paint film will always respond to water to become soluble even after it has dried. Watercolors and gouache are hydroscopic making paintings done in these medias more vulnerable to damage. But on the other hand paint that dries in your palette may be reactivated by misting with water eliminating waste and adding convenience for plein air. Acrylics are not hydroscopic but are water-soluble when wet, moisture resistant when dry. |
